5 Simple Steps To Creating Your Own Blog.

Our blog today is 5 Simple Steps To Creating Your Own Blog.  The article was written by James Bennett and is a great read.  Before you get started you need to decide why you want to blog?  What is the purpose of your blog?

What is it that you are passionate about and what is that you like to talk about?

These questions need to be answered first before you start blogging.

Creating a “blog” with information about your business or products and a few pages isn’t a blog… it’s a fancy website using the blogging platform.

(BTW- This is OK…. I actually use wordpress blogs to create static websites… I think they look awesome!)

But, Being a blogger means that you:

-Write about something you are passionate about

-Update your site regularly

-Offer something of value that people want to read  (Serve a need)

-Participate with other bloggers in the “Blogosphere”  — Yes, this is required- Blogging is a social medium (unless you don’t want anyone to read your blog)

Defining your blog’s purpose, niche, what you will write about is probably the most important step and must be done first.

Once you discover that, then you can focus on keywords and choosing a domain name.

Step 2- Choose Keywords and a Domain Name

You’ve decided what your blogs purpose is, but you also want to make sure that your blog is marketable.

This includes picking the right keywords.

I’m not going to go into keyword research  (just do a search on this website using the term “keyword research” and you will out how to properly search for keywords….

The key is that you want to target specific audiences, search engine keywords and make sure that they tie in with your niche.

Once this is discovered, then you will want to pick a domain name that includes your keyword or niche.

If you are blogging to gain personal branding or to create a specific expert status in your niche, then you could actually use your own name in the blog url name.

Step 3-  Structure, Design, and Platform

If you are going to blog in this day and age, then you will want a self-hosted wordpress blog.

There simply isn’t a better, more customizable and supported platform out there.

The easy done-for-you all the way…

This is the method that I recommend actually.  These blogs are created on a very stable framework and use a theme that’s very SEO friendly and looks great.  They will customize the blog with your own branding and even host it for you for no more than you would pay for hosting yourself.

Step 4- Get Started

Once your blog is designed, you need to get started.

Start writing GOOD content immediatly. Pick a schedule of publishing regular blog posts and stick to that schedule…. Every day is to much, but once a month is way too little.  1-3 times a week makes sense.

Watch your spelling and grammar, but it doesn’t have to read formal.

In fact, if you write your blog closer to the way you talk, then it probably will get read more.

Create compelling headlines for your blog posts.

90% of the time, people choose to read a blog post or article because of the headline.

The key here is to just get started.

You will learn a lot as you get going… especially if you interact with other bloggers

(don’t forget to stay social! With your blog including using Twitter, Facebook, etc).

Which leads to the next step…..

Step 5 – Join a Blog Mastermind Tribe

Tribal blogging is huge.

This is where a group of individuals get together and help each other spread the words out across social networks  about your blog.  They also participate by reading each other’s posts and commenting.

Commenting on blogs is SUPER IMPORTANT…. Its where you socialize with other bloggers, making them look good to their readers and where you get the all important back link.

There is a problem with many tribes out there though… they don’t offer support for your continued growth and people are just blindly syndicating everything in hoping that they get a lot of syndication for themselves-  this creates a self-focused mentality where there isn’t really any social interaction.

Not so with TSA Mastery.   http://TSAMastery.com

You are required to participate if you want to be part of this group of bloggers.   That means you have to comment and syndicate to stay active.

The group requires you to regulate yourself and if you produce garbage on your blog, then you will be overlooked.

The good thing is that these are people that want to see you succeed in your blogging effort.

There is a one-time fee of $20.00 to join the group.  This is put in place to protect the members so that a bunch of freebee seekers  don’t join one week for free and then never participate again.

There are step-by-step training videos that will walk you through creating the social atmosphere that you want with your blog and then show you how to engage with other bloggers.   It’s good stuff and it’s real people.

That’s it for getting started.   It may look like a daunting task, but with all the support and step-by-step programs that I have identified for you, I believe that anyone can become a blogger.

All the best,
