It’s All About Balance in MLM. Balancing your MLM business and your “day” job.

Many folks once they start in MLM, want to put every ounce of energy you have into their new business.

I understand that feeling but, please don’t be too quick to quit your job. You need that while you’re building up your business. It’s very important to keep that flow of income from your job coming in until your MLM business income overtakes your job income.

For some, this happens relatively quickly, and for others it takes more time. Right now, that job is keeping you and your family afloat while you grow your business, and remember, you need to keep things balanced.

Since you’ve chosen to start your own network marketing business, you’re obviously aware that it involves a lot of work. And you’ve probably already seen that there is huge potential for making money with MLM and you’re excited and energized to get going! You want to do everything you can to transform your growing downline into an established, profit-filled business. That’s great but hold on a minute.

It’s much wiser to grow your MLM business to the point where it is well-established and a strong money-maker before you let go of that old job. If you can be patient and work hard to get your reputation built up while growing a solid downline, you’ll be in a much better position when you finally do fire your boss. Try to think very logically and take all the necessary steps, so that when you quit things will go smoothly. Your MLM career is about making your life more comfortable and successful, it’s not about making your family worry.

In the meantime, when you’re at your regular job, you need to be fully there. Right now, that’s your main source of income. Don’t spend your time on the job obsessing over your business. Spend your time on the job focusing on doing your best at it. Why? Because as a professional in any area, one thing you always must do is treat any job or other aspect of your life with respect by putting your best effort into it.

Likewise, when you’re working on your new business, put yourself fully into it. Don’t worry about the things you have to do when you return to your job. Don’t give your job a thought. You’re running your business. Now is the time to do the things you’ve learned to grow your business – building lists, gathering leads, communicating with downline members, furthering your own training and helping others learn.

It’s a balancing act, just like everything else in life. I know that the desire and temptation to quit the job is there. We all experience it and everyone is eager to be able to spend all their time working their business.

While you’re moving through this transition period, do your best to schedule time in every day to work on your MLM business – a couple hours each day and then more on the weekend if possible. Yes, this is a lot of work, but if you don’t grow your business you’ll never be able to quit your job.

Consider this too: you may want to save up some extra money to help you move through the actual time that you quit your job and start spending your time solely on your business. This is an especially good idea if you have a family to help support.

This is a tough period, I understand that. You’re anxious to make the move. You’re essentially working two jobs and you’re also trying to spend time with family and friends. Do all that you can to prioritize and organize your life. Use good time management practices.

Take this time to prepare thoroughly for when you’re working for yourself so that you can make the experience a completely rewarding one. This involves being a good planner and being patient. Focus on doing your very best at what you’re doing right now. And plan ahead. Learn all the ins and outs of MLM right now . That way, when the time comes to quit your job, you’ll be ready for running your business!

Today our blog is titled Our Nation’s Proud Protectors… Memorial Day .  This was written by my 15 year old daughter Hailey. This was a class project she was given and when she asked me to review it for her, I was moved with emotion and pride. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Our Nation’s Proud Protectors… Memorial Day By Hailey Hunter

Do not ask what the military can do for us, but ask what we as a nation can do for them.  This paraphrase from John F. Kennedy is a wonderful opening for an essay on our military.  In the United States there are many brave men and women, who leave their families and friends for what?  So they can go and defend the people of America.  It comes from the depth of the soldier’s soul to choose to take on such an incredible task on a volunteer basis. The soldiers in the military sometimes go across oceans not even knowing if they are ever going to see their loved ones again.  “Freedom is not free, but the U.S. Marine Corps will pay most of your share.” was said by a man named Ned Dolan.  I truly believe he knew what he was saying.

One of the many ways that we show pride in our military is by honoring these brave individuals with special holidays.  Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to praise and remember our Freedom Fighters.  There are many others that are simply marked on the calendar, but not even observed with the banks closing, mail not being delivered, and the trash pickup being delayed a day.  Memorial Day is the day to honor America’s fighters who died during a war.  Independence Day, which occurred 235 years ago, celebrates the war we won that gained our freedom from Great Britain.  Veterans Day honors all American veterans, both living and dead. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their dedicated and loyal service to our country.  November 11 of each year is the day we ensure that veterans are aware of how deeply we appreciate the sacrifices they have made in their lives to keep our country free.

Federal holidays often bring parades as another way to honor and show pride in our military.  The wonderful outpouring of support by the community is seen when they line the streets, cheering wildly as the parade passes by.  Fire trucks sound their horns and sirens, bands play marching music, and many parents pull wagons with children waving flags.  This definitely gets everyone excited because they may have written letters to soldiers, sent care packages overseas, or have a relative who is currently serving.  As a community we must not let our pride die in the eyes of the children because they are our future.  These children grow with what we teach them.  As we look at the flag, put our hand over our hearts, and stand for the national anthem, this shows the young children the depth of our heartfelt pride in those who serve for us.

When I began writing this paper, I realized how oblivious I was to everything and everyone that protects the people of the United States.  “Taken for granted” is the phrase that sums it all up.  But I doubt that I am alone in my ignorance.  I think it would be fair to say that many of the kids at school think of Memorial Day as an extra day off to sleep in or hang out with friends.  Unfortunately, many of my generation have only a vague idea of what this day represents.  For some of these holidays it would be so easy to let the meaning fade over time.  For example, consider D-Day.  Do we celebrate? No!  I can bet that many people are not even aware of what D-Day is.  D-Day was on June 6, 1944 which was the first day of invasion on the shoreline of Normandy, France.  This is where our brave soldiers met Nazi Germany and defeated them to bring an end to the war in Europe.

The United States of America is “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”  This is due, in large part, to the never ending vigilance of the military.  The pride that is seen on the serviceman or servicewoman’s face as they are honored for their service to our country shows that the answer to the question, “Is there pride in serving our military?” is a definite YES!  Because of their dedication, loyalty, and courage, our country possesses a grandeur that awes all other nations.  I am honored to live in such a wonderful country with men and women who are willing to fight for what we believe in.  This being said, thank you to everyone who has served or is currently serving in our armed forces here and abroad defending this beautiful nation, which we call home.

Personal development is essential for every individual, especially in business.  We’ve been taught to separate our business lives and our personal lives as the two often don’t mix well together.  When doing business, we walk around with an entirely different mentality than we do during our time off, which often leads to differing personalities that simply don’t work interchangeably.  These places are two different worlds, and within them, we turn into two different people.  It doesn’t seem logical to put them together.  That being said, there are certain situations that merit a reason to mix personal and business life, and one such instance rests in the matter of personal development.

Through personal development, you create a better place for yourself to be, which often transcends to a better attitude and more success overall.  While this is often a process that occurs exclusively out of the office, there is a great need to merge new developments into a business environment so that you can access those tools for success in both your business and in your personal life.  Two people can have the same skills, so there’s no reason to say that your two different lifestyles can’t share in the same development.  In fact, personal improvement is actually one of the best ways to start seeing success in the business world because you take a lot of the mental struggles away.  That frees your mind for success.

But what is personal development?  Well, that term entails the process of mentally preparing yourself to achieve greater things.  This may be done by something as simple as looking at an event from the past and acknowledging your mistakes, or it can go as far as completely adjusting your outlook on life.  It just depends on how much development you really need.  There’s always room to make yourself better though, and an attempt at self improvement can vastly impact the success of your business and personal life alike.  You just have to know what to work on first.

The easiest thing to do to really achieve personal development is to start setting goals for yourself to reach.  They can be as simple or complex as you need them to be.  Just make them things that you can see yourself actually achieving.  Once you’ve found success, then set another goal, and another, and another until the cycle leads you to becoming the successful person that you really want to be.  As long as you keep reaching higher, you’ll keep improving along the way.

Today’s featured blog article is titled develop the do it now habit by Tom Hopkins. Tom Hopkins is one of my long time favorites and after reading this you will understand why.

Self-Discipline really encompasses nearly everything in life. Do you remember in school when you were given 30 days to write a term paper? Did you start it that first night?

Most of us didn’t. Instead, we thought about it every night. “Got to get moving on that ratty project. But I’ve got almost a whole month left–it can wait.” As time goes by, worry about getting a failing grade looms larger in our minds. At first the pain of starting the term paper is greater than our concern about the failing grade, so after a week we still haven’t started.  Two weeks go by. What are we doing every night before we go to sleep? Worrying about that F. “I better start. Tomorrow I’ll get moving on it.”

A week before the term paper is due, the F is getting larger–but it’s still not quite large enough to offset the pain of working at preventing it. All of a sudden there are only three days left before it’s due, and at last the F looms larger than the pain of working on the term paper.  So we start.

As you lay it out you begin feeling some enthusiasm. “This isn’t bad. I may get an A if I do this and do that.” When you walk in with your paper you’re happy, but you wasted 27 days worrying about starting. In other words, you operated at a deficit emotionally for 27 days when you could have been in the profit column the whole time. Move into the emotional profit column right now; starting today, get your priority tasks and actions handled promptly. Plan your actions, then act on your plans. Apply this determination to every area of your life and it will make an enormous difference in your income, growth rate in business as well as your satisfaction and growth rate personally.

The portrait of a man who was being called the Whiz Kid on Wall Street appeared on the cover of a national magazine many years ago. He was one of the first to put a conglomerate together, and some of the federal laws affecting business in the early 70′s came about because of the trends that his creativity set off. At the time he was 42, he was running one of the largest industrial combines in the country, the conglomerate he had built himself. So the magazine had assigned a journalist and a team of researchers to do an in-depth report on this entrepreneur.

One of the researchers went to the small city the dynamic executive had left 15 years earlier. A few items turned up there about an alcoholic with the same name who had been sleeping on park benches at that time. The researcher passed this information along, and as the journalist was concluding his interview with the Wall Street powerhouse in his plush office, the journalist laughed and said, “Believe it or not, a man with your exact name was sleeping on park benches and getting ousted by the police when you lived in your home town. I guess the poor guy was a real wino. Isn’t that something?”

The president looked up and smiled. “That was me,” he said.

The reporter was flabbergasted. “This can’t be. You’re kidding.”

The president of the conglomerate leaned back in his leather chair and shook his head. “I’m not kidding. The wino sleeping off drinks on park benches was me.”

The journalist stared at him for a moment and realized that the man was telling the truth.  He also realized that now he had a whole new story. When his apologies were waved aside, he said, “I have to ask, what made you change?”

Listen to what he said because so many people fit this mold: “When I was sleeping under newspapers in the park 15 years ago, I knew that someday I would do what I’m doing now. I was just waiting until I was ready to start.”

Do you know how many people are like that?  “Well, next year’s my year. I’m going to get to work then. You just wait and see–right after the first of the year I’m gonna start shaping up.” But of course the time to get going never quite comes for most people. They have good intentions, but are lacking the two most vital components of any good deed: the motivation to begin and a strategic plan to keep them moving forward.

You see, by not beginning, you’re not risking failure, but you’re also confining yourself to the level of success you currently have. If you’re happy with that, fine. If not, make that plan and get fired up!

If your potential for greater success is nagging at you, don’t wait. Time is flying by so fast. Start today to achieve the greatness you know is within you.
