Entrepreneurs Are Alive And Well!

This is the cover of the most recent issue of Inc. Magazine. And a darn good one I might add.

My favorite quote from the article inside is: “We need Entrepreneurs, not just M.B.A’s.”

I couldn’t agree more. Somehow, we’ve lost our way, and have this mentality that “more school” is the answer. Contrary to popular belief, “more school” is rarely the answer. In fact, the American educational system does a marvelous job selling the public on “more school” and “more degrees” as the answer.

Few realize there are a massive amount of highly educated people with multiple degrees on their wall who are barely surviving in business, just eeking out a living at best. The numbers are staggering in fact.

It was the late, great Jim Rohn who said: “Traditional education will make you a living, self education will make you a fortune.”

New ideas, innovation, creativity, business start up, Entrepreneurship… is the answer. Always has been, always will be…

It’s Entrepreneurs who create jobs, not Government…

It’s Entrepreneurs who create wealth, not Government…

It’s Entrepreneurs who create optimism and “hope,” not Government…

And, the BIG one… It’s Entrepreneurs who Get Paid First, not Government…

Most don’t realize this little secret but… if you are a W-2 Employee (paid a salary by a company), YOU, my friend, are paid dead last…

First, your company get’s paid, then the Government gets paid (federal taxes coming out of YOUR check), then the state gets paid (state income tax), then Social Security gets paid (YOU funding someone else’s retirement), then, if you have one, your retirement plan gets paid (401k and/or IRA aka: Wall Street gets paid). Ohh, and then, by the way… YOU get paid a week or two later. Almost forgot about ya there. Sorry….

Goodness, that alone would make me want to be Entrepreneur, if for no other reason than NOT to be a W-2 Employee. But there are plenty of other reasons. And this particular article in Inc. Magazine does a super job laying out specific plans, ideas and concepts as to why now, Entrepreneurship is the answer. I suggest you grab a copy.

My family and I just returned from the most incredible Nettrav Express Vacation. We had the privilege of taking a luxurious 5 day cruise on the Royal Caribbean cruise line the Grandeur Of The Sea with our Escape vacation travel points. We left port in Florida on Saturday July 31st, heading for our first stop in Key West on Sunday..

Key West was beautiful with a lot of history, beauty, culture and shopping (which my wife and daughters loved).

After a day of fun and excitement we left port Sunday evening for our next stop in beautiful Cozumel Mexico. Cozumel was absolutely beautiful! The beaches are incredible. My wife and daughters got to do a 3 hour excursion of snorkeling which was their first time.. And of course the shopping was great..

On Monday evening we set out for a beautiful private island owned by Royal Caribbean Coco Cay. We arrived on Coco Cay in the Bahamas on Wednesday morning. The island was outstanding with pristine waters and lots of family activities. The cruise was so good we may take another trip before the end of this year.

The beauty of Nettrav Express is you actually earn the travel points to take the free vacations. You also receive travel points when you join the Nettrav opportunity. When people ask what you do for a living and you tell them you travel the world for free and earn a great income in the process they want to hear what Nettrav has to offer right away. I have discovered this to be the easiest most profitable business I have ever done.. If you have any interest in taking a look for yourself visit my site at www.nettravexpress.com/express1 .
You will be amazed at what you discover.

SEVEN SIMPLE STEPS TO SMALL BUSINESS SUCCESS by Brian Tracy

Many businesspeople achieve their greatest successes in unexpected areas. They begin a business and then they find that it isn’t as profitable as they had anticipated, so they change direction, using their experience and their momentum, and strike pay dirt in something else. The most important thing is to begin, to take action. To move forward one step at a time, learning and growing as you go. There is enough information available in virtually every field for you to become knowledgeable enough to achieve success. But action is necessary.

THE TWO PARTS OF SUCCESS

Success author Orison Swett Marden once wrote, the first part of success is get-to-it-iveness. The second part is stick-to-it-iveness. Every business beginning requires an act of faith and courage, a bold leap into the unknown. Only one in ten people who want to start their own business ever develop enough courage to begin and enough persistence to continue. Get-to-it-iveness. And stick-to-it-iveness. The fear of failure, more than anything else, holds people back. It paralyzes action. And it makes failure inevitable.

BEGIN WITH A DREAM

Fortunately, even if you know nothing about business, you can begin with a dream, a castle in the air, and then build a foundation under it.

SEVEN SIMPLE STEPS

The starting point of many great fortunes has been these seven simple steps. Number one, set a goal and back it with a burning desire. Number two, begin accumulating capital with a regular savings program. Nothing else is possible without this. You cannot move forward until you start a savings program.

USE YOUR CURRENT JOB AS A SPRINGBOARD

Number three, use your current job as a springboard to later success. Learn while you earn. Take the long view. Number four, experiment in business on a limited scale so you can learn the key abilities necessary for success. Number five, search for problems, needs unmet, products or services you can supply of good quality at reasonable prices.

READ EVERYTHING YOU CAN FIND

Number six, read everything you can find on your chosen field. Remain flexible. Be willing to change your mind if you get different information. And number seven, implement your plans with courage and persistence. Have complete faith in your ability to succeed and never, never give up.

ACTION EXERCISES

Now, here are two actions you can take immediately to start moving toward entrepreneurial success:

First, set a goal, make a plan and then launch your plan. Get started. Do something. Begin on a small scale with limited risk and investment but get going!

Second, resolve that, no matter what happens, you will never, never give up until you are successful. Before you accomplish anything worthwhile, you will have to pass the persistence test. And the test will come far sooner than you imagine.

To your success,

COMING IN FROM THE COLD by Dr. John C. Maxwell

Sir Ernest Shackleton was a great explorer who found himself and his crew in a life-or-death crisis when they had to abandon ship in the icy waters around Antarctica.

It was 1914, and Shackleton’s expedition had planned an unprecedented land crossing of the frozen continent. When the ship got stuck in the ice and sank, the crew began an unscheduled 18-month survival test. They stayed alive as they moved among the drifting ice floes until they eventually found an island, where they established a camp. When their provisions began to run low, Shackleton and several crewmembers boarded one of their salvaged lifeboats and made a daring 800-mile voyage to a whaling station. They returned with a ship, and all 27 men survived the ordeal.

There are two types of people during a crisis – those who freeze and those who focus. Shackleton might have been stranded in one of the coldest places on the planet, but his creativity never froze. Instead, it was critical to the team’s survival.

As I studied Shackleton’s experiences, three principles about leading with creativity during crisis came to mind.

1. Creative activity increases creative ability.

As you become active in creativity, you gain more creative ability. Many people would love to have creative ability, but they’ve never done creative activities. When we freeze, we stop creating. Shackleton practiced “routine” creativity, for himself and for his crew. So when problems presented themselves, he and his crew never gave up on their ability to come up with creative solutions.

2. The rulebook no longer rules.

Everybody wants to give you the rulebook. David Kelley was right when he said, “The most important thing I learned from big companies is that creativity gets stifled when everyone’s got to follow the rules.” And Thomas Edison, probably the greatest inventor ever, would tell people who visited his laboratory that, “There ain’t no rules around here! We’re trying to accomplish something.” Structure and rules serve us well, but legalism can choke our creative spirit to its death.

3. God is the Great Creator.

It doesn’t make sense not to bring God – the Creator of the universe – into the creative process. No matter how much natural talent God has given us, God always can make it greater, better, bigger. That’s why I pray for creativity. And when I pray for creativity, I ask for two things – I ask God to give me an idea or give me an example.

In our fast-paced, competitive marketplace, few resources are more valuable to organizations than creativity. But during a crisis, which is when real leadership either rises or falls, creativity often finds itself swallowed by urgency. Who has time to think outside the box when the box is collapsing around you?

Shackleton, however, saw beyond the problems to the big picture. He recognized creativity’s importance in keeping him and his crew alive and functioning as a team when they had little margin for error in the bitter cold and isolation of Antarctica. More than a skill, creativity was an attitude in his life that enabled him to find solutions to the obstacles they faced. When others would have frozen – literally as well as figuratively, in this case – Shackleton focused creatively on surviving the crisis.

——————————————————————————–

It is by no accident that John Maxwell has come to be known as a leader of leaders and mentor to thousands – his path and his purpose have been a single, straight thread since childhood. From the pulpit to the boardroom, his focus has always been to equip and inspire leaders at all levels.

As I share with everyone one of my favorite books of all time is the Science Of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles. This is a excellent article titled The 30 Day Challenge by James Ray on this topic. Here is what Mr. Ray has to say.

One gentleman I consider to be a great mentor (although I have never met him) is Wallace D. Wattles. Wattles wrote a trilogy of books in the late 1800s entitled The Science of Getting Richs, The Science of Well-Being, and The Science of Becoming Excellent. They are ALL outstanding!

If you have read my book The Science of Success, it is probably evident by the title that Wattles has had a strong influence on my thinking.

I have a laminated quote from Wattles that has been sitting on my desk for AT LEAST 2 years. This week I will give you the quote, along with a 30-day challenge.

If you accept the challenge, it must be done first thing in the morning before you start your day. Pick a goal and do EXACTLY what the quote says. Then take action and EXPECT MAGIC to happen in your life.

Here’s the complete challenge:

1. Pick a goal that you want, and truly believe, you can achieve in the next 30 days. Make it specific and clear. Create a “spiritual prototype”/picture of this goal in your mind. Remember, you must be IN the picture — looking through your own eyes.

2. Commit to visualizing your goal first thing in the morning and last thing at night every single day for the next 30 days.

3. As a part of your visualization process (either before or after) read the Wattles quote OUT LOUD every single day for the next thirty days.

4. It must be read FIRST THING in the morning before you begin your day (if you want to read it at night as well — more power to you).

5. This must be read with PASSION. In other words, on a scale of 1-10 you have to be at least at a 20!

6. Follow the instructions of the quote.

Are you ready? Are you committed? Do you have the spiritual prototype of your 30-day goal? Here’s Wattles’:

“There is a thinking substance from which all things are made, and which in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.
A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.

I can form things in my thought, and by impressing my thoughts upon formless substance, can cause the thing I think about to be created.

In order to do this, I must pass from the competitive to the creative mind. I must form a clear mental picture of the things I want. And, I must hold this picture in my thoughts with the fixed purpose to get what I want, and the unwavering faith that I will get what I want — closing my mind to all that may tend to shake my purpose, dim my vision, or quench my faith.

I am ready to receive what I want when it comes, and I AM ACTING NOW upon the people and things in my present environment.”

To your success,

You and Your Goals

Have you thought much about goals? Perhaps your current goal is to graduate with a Master’s Degree and then go after that promotion at work. Maybe it is to drop 10 pounds before bikini season is over and do it the healthy way. Or, maybe your goal is more loosely defined, but nevertheless important… like committing to live a more environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Our goals say a lot about us, expressing who we are and what we stand for. Empowering goals take us into life where we want to be. They bring us purpose, passion and a sense of accomplishment.

Often, we confuse empowering goals with expectations. A goal is a mission that you set for yourself, and needs to be based on your personal values and beliefs. Sometimes, the expectations others have for us about how we should live, who we should be and what we should look like become enmeshed with what we intend for ourselves.

When we try to live up to everyone else’s expectations, we lose sight of ourselves. We get disconnected. Are the current goals that you have for yourself based on who YOU are, and what YOU want? If not, you may want to reexamine what it is that you feel is most important in your life, and then compare that to how you are actually living.

Sometimes, we set the bar for our goals too high. This is because our own self-expectations are simply unattainable. We all have those “shoulds” and “have-to’s” that we struggle to meet each day. Maybe you think you ought to look a certain way… be a certain size… have a certain lifestyle. Basic goal setting teaches us that an empowering goal is one that is attainable… within reach. Remember that and you will start to see a difference in your life.

This is information that is valuable to you. I have titled this post, finding the right mentors to help you build. The article was written by one of my favorites Michael Force.

The most obvious example I can think of when I think of why you need a good mentor is learning how to ride a bike.

Maybe you’re one of the few kids who just got on that bike and rode it without help. I wasn’t.

Whenever we’re learning anything, the people who help us are a major part of the reason we succeed.

The same is true of online business.

When you think about this, it makes perfect sense. You’ve had business mentors in every job you’ve ever had. These were the people who did everything from training you to telling you that your boss had custody of the kids on Tuesday nights so you shouldn’t approach him on Wednesday mornings.

Yes, as an online business owner you’re responsible for your own success. Part of that responsibility is realizing what you don’t know and finding the right people to teach you.

Fortunately, there are a lot of good people out there who have been wildly successful with their online businesses and now spend at least part of their time helping others achieve the same success.

My personal business model is based on the reality that my success results from helping other people realize their dreams. All of the best business mentors share that same mindset.

But how do you find the right online business mentor for you? After all, like I said there are a lot of great mentors out there.

There are also a lot of scam artists out there. The online world isn’t any different from the offline world in that regard.

With that fact in mind, here are some of the things you need to be looking out for when you choose your online business mentor or mentors:

• How successful has this person been? How successful is she or he now? You want someone with a proven track record who also successfully rides the fast-changing world of online business.

• What about the people who have worked with this mentor? What do they have to say about the experience, and exactly how have their businesses benefited?

• Exactly how much support does the mentor offer? Will you be meeting online only, or does he offer phone and/or in-person consultations as well? Is this style a comfortable fit for you?

• How quickly does the person respond to questions?
• Finally, is this person a good fit for you personally? Do you admire him or her for personal traits or just for business success? Hopefully this will be an ongoing business relationship. Be sure to pick someone you’re going to feel comfortable with for awhile.

Another thing you need to know is that you don’t just need good mentors when you’re starting out with your online business. I’ve been successful in this business for more than 10 years now, and I still seek out other seasoned professionals for their advice.

Going into business for yourself isn’t a matter of building your ego. It’s not about reinventing unnecessary wheels and having to do everything yourself. With an online business as with every other kind of business, your success is going to grow from the company you keep as well as from the work you do. Choose that company wisely, and good luck.

To Your Success,

I love James Ray and his teachings. Here is a great article he wrote titled Back To The Basics By James Ray. I hope you benefit by this information.

Is it just me…or do you seem to hear a lot about “getting back to basics” these days?

I work in a variety of industries from Network Marketing to Corporate America – from small business to large. The fundamental principles that I have discovered, and which I have labeled The Entrepreneurial Mindset ™, are cross-contextual and therefore applicable regardless of where you are.

As I mentioned, I am frequently hearing this “back to basics” phrase from a variety of leaders in several industries.

And I agree that to succeed you and I must get back to the basics. Where I may not agree with those who are advocating this approach is on the definition of what “basics” means. Let me explain.

I was a national sales trainer for AT&T for several years. During this time I frequently experienced frustration after giving my students the latest and greatest sales skills – closing techniques, prospecting, questioning and a host of other potential income builders only to find that they were never applied!

Subsequently I was promoted to AT&T School of Business where I was given the responsibility of all management training – again the same phenomenon was observed.

Through my frustration I realized it was time…time to “get back to basics”!

I learned that until you and I change our fundamental and continuous thought processes, the most basic skills would infrequently if ever be applied. Likewise they will rarely even be pursued. This is particularly true if the application of these skills and techniques is contrary to our self-image and belief regarding our own abilities.

“It’s not about what you do but HOW you do it that determines your success”

I know an entrepreneurial shoe shine specialist that makes more money per hour than many corporate execs! It’s not WHAT he is doing that drives his success (shining shoes) rather HOW he goes about doing it. When thinking of a tremendous business opportunity most of us would probably not think of shining shoes – maybe we should reconsider )

Conversely, I know many who are sitting on a multi-million dollar business opportunity and they are going nowhere fast.

I meet individuals in a variety of situations that are succeeding “in spite” of themselves and their lack of formal education and skill!

Just as often I find very skilled and educated non-achievers.

I meet people who have an AMAZING product to represent and yet they are not building an amazing business. On the other hand, I meet people with an “OK to good” product who are getting AMAZING results in their business.

The answer to these puzzles lies not in the skills, not in the education, not in the product nor any other quality of “externals.” The answer to this puzzle lies in getting back to the “internal” basics of an achievers mindset – the fundamental and consistent thought processes that drive continuous action and fuels the passion necessary to win.

I am not in anyway suggesting that education; skills, product or anything we have discussed is unimportant. Only that they are NOT the ANSWER to your continuing success.

Let us not forget what the basics are – when the true basics are addressed the external skills and education will be pursued, acquired and most importantly APPLIED.

Let’s get back to basics, but let’s accurately define the basics as the fundamental mindset that all super achievers hold and continue to develop. Every dollar you invest in this asset – every minute and hour you devote to developing your mindset will conservatively return to you 1000 times over!

Now it’s possible that you may be thinking, “Well James, I have invested in these things and I am not getting the results I should be getting. I have attended multiple seminars and read numerous books and it’s not working.”

Two things may be occurring: Time and/or application.

Time is easy to address – if you are doing everything consistently (key word) to grow…it’s just a matter of time. Be patient and have faith. Remember if you are at least 20 years old it took you 20 years to develop your current mindset. Don’t make the mistake of thinking it will change overnight or in one or two seminars. There is no quick fix in life.

So once time is considered…we move to application.

“There is a MAJOR difference between reading the book and writing the book.” (Think about that one for a while).

Yes, I too know those who can talk with the best. In fact, I am thinking of one leader right now who can quote the quotes, talk all the right talk, even better than some of the authors he emulates.

The question is, “Has he walked the walk?” Has he experienced the journey, has he stayed the course, has he grappled in the darkest hours – just with himself, his creator and his vision? Has he had times in which he was living on vision sandwiches and faith cookies? Has he come to know and experience that of which he has heard?

In the movie “Good Will Hunting,” Robin Williams and Will are sitting on a park bench and Robin’s character says, “Will, you are smart – you know about 747′s, you can tell me how much fuel they hold, you can tell me how many meals they serve, how many people fit into one…but you’ve never been on a 747. If I asked you about war, you could tell me all about it but you have never been in one. Until you’ve seen your best friend on the battle field looking up at you, gasping for his last breath, pleading for your help – you don’t know what war is.”

Let’s get back to basics. Write the book and make your life magnificent!

James Ray, Master of The Entrepreneurial Mindset, is the author of The Science of Success.
