What is Leadership in Network Marketing? How to Excel at Leading a Team
If you are part of a network marketing business than chances are you have heard a lot about leadership. Your upline may drone on incessantly about providing leadership to your channels and growing duplication through leadership. You may think to yourself that you got into this business so that you could be your own boss and work as you see fit, so why do you need to learn about leadership? Didn’t everyone under you get into it for the same reason? If they don’t want you to be their boss, then why do you need to be a leader? Just what is leadership in network marketing anyway?
Unlike a traditional work environment, network marketing is a unique opportunity where everyone is a leader and everyone is their own boss. Every time that you present your product or your opportunity, you are being given the opportunity to be a leader. You can be a sales leader, a recruitment leader or a hybrid of the two. But what if you are just a mediocre salesman with a fairly small group of people beneath you? In a case like yours, what is leadership in network marketing really about? For you, it is about breeding duplication. The more you show your reps how it is done properly, the more they are going to do it right.
The whole concept behind network marketing is to work smarter, not harder. You know that the more reps you recruit, the more revenue opportunities you will have. If you are really good at recruiting reps but then find that they peter out quickly and don’t perform then the chances are that you are not providing enough leadership. But what is leadership in network marketing? Leadership in network marketing is taking the time to show your reps what techniques have worked for you. It is being there to counsel and to coach. It is giving constructive criticisms when they are needed and serving as a one person cheering section when they do well.
Sounds pretty easy – right? It can be, if you work at it. Unfortunately, not enough people in network marketing are asking the important question, “What is leadership in network marketing?”, so the reps beneath them are struggling, looking for guidance. If you want your organization to succeed, then it is high time that you ask yourself that question and whether or not you are providing that leadership. Better yet, ask your reps. If they feel supported and are growing, then you know that you are doing OK.
